Picking Paint Colors

The first place I look for color inspiration when painting a new piece of furniture, is the Martha Stewart paint collection at Home Depot.  Yes, I love my Benjamin Moore paint decks, too.  But with thousands of colors to chose from they can be a little overwhelming.  The main reason I love Martha Stewart's paint, is that she's already done the dirty work for us.  She's weeded through all the ugly and unnecessary and left us with the best colors to chose from.  She doesn't have some of the brighter colors I like, but I always start with her first and move on from there if I need to.

Where do you go for paint color inspiration?

  1. Just found your blog and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! My friend and I also finish furniture and sell it - and you have a ton of inspiration :)
I usually look for inspiration in fabric actually - if there is one I love, I try to find a color in there that is speaking to me most.
I do have one question for you - what type of top coat do you use on your furniture?
Thanks - and keep up the good work.

  3. I'm actually a fan of the full-sized Sherwin Williams decks since I like to see larger swatches. I have a whole set of their binders. Have you checked out Citron Paint, in Tucson? They have gorgeous colors, but most are quite muted.

  8. I also start with Martha, and for exactly the reason s you mentioned! I've totally had this exact conversation with a friend of mine before. :) I especially like her colors for walls, because they are so muted that even if you go with something wild, it won't be "too" wild. :)

It depends on my mood though. I really love Pinterest for color inspiration.

  12. I have always like Martha Stewart's paint color but yet to try it because hubby love his Behr paints. I am wondering how is the coverage for Martha Stewart's paint? Is it thick and does it provide good coverage?
