Drapes: The Finished Product and a Cost Breakdown
They are finally complete! I had planned on finishing them last week until it came time to insert the hooks and couldn’t. I had sewn the pleat tape on upside down…typical. So I got frustrated and left them. Bleh. I finally mustered the motivation to start picking stiches yesterday – got two inches and almost gave up again. Then it occurred to me that I could just sew another strip of pleat tape right over the top. It worked like a charm. This is why I do not like sewing. I make so many bone-headed mistakes! I wonder…is this just a learning curve thing, or do I lack the common sense required to be a good seamstress?
Anyhow, that’s all just water under the bridge. My drapes are done and they look fantastic!
Here’s the cost break down:
7 yards fabric: $28 {a smokin’ deal from Home Fabrics}
7 yards lining: $13.60 {with 50% off coupon}
3 yards pleat tape: $1.75
1 bag of hooks: $4.88
Extra long drapery rod: $14.97 {lucked out with this clearance find}
Bag of rings: $6 {with 40% off coupon}
Spray paint for rod: already had
Total cost: $69.20!
$18.23 more than the Ikea panels I was originally planning to use – but they add so much more to the room!

These look fabulous! Love the detail of the pleat. I'm the same way when it comes to sewing, there's so many steps and so much thinking involved. I always seem to skip a step somewhere along the way! I'm hoping it comes with time :)
ReplyDeleteThey look awesome....seem ripping is part of sewing...at least for me I don't think I've ever done a project that I didn't have to pull out the seam ripper.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful! Sewing is such a huge undertaking...that's one area I'm not sure I'm ready to tackle. :)
ReplyDeleteYour curtains look great! Love your fabric choice.
