a special locket and a GIVEAWAY

My good friend gave me the most amazing gift after we lost our baby.

It's an Origami Owl necklace.  The locket holds an E for Eliza, her April birthstone and a charm that says "Forever Family".  She also had "Blessed" stamped on the back plate because I told her we felt so blessed to have the opportunity to have someone so special come to our family.

When I'm at the park or out and about with all my kids, people I meet often ask how many kids I have. I say four, but want to say five, but because there aren't five with me they usually ask follow up questions about the missing one and then I tell them she's not with us.  It's not awkward for me, but it usually is for whoever is asking.  So I stick with four.
It makes me a little sad, like I'm denying Eliza's presence in our family, but when I wear this locket, I don't.  I feel like she's with me and it's okay if I don't mention her.

I also love that when I wear it, my kids never fail to notice and comment about her.  It seems to bring us all comfort in the reminder.
Last time I wore it, Charlotte held the locket and chimed, "Baby Eliza up in heaven.  I love her."

Because I love mine so much I asked Heidi if she'd be willing to host a GIVEAWAY so that one of you can have the chance to have your own customizable locket.  And just in time for Christmas!

If you're interested in winning $50 towards your own customizable locket, go to Origami Owl and come back here and tell me which locket you would chose if you won.

For a second entry Like Heidi's Facebook page and come back and tell me.

The giveaway ends Friday, December 7th!

  4. I'd choose the large silver locket with crystals. I'm undecided on the actual "charms" as there are so many to choose from and it would depend on which direction of my own life as to which I'd decide on. :)

I would love to win a medium silver locket with crystals for my sister. I have a very close knit family and she just recently had to move away for work. I know she is very home sick and I'd love to fill a necklace with things that remind her of home for Christmas.

  9. I just love Origami Owl. I just lost my dad at the beginning of the summer and had been looking at the cancer ribbons and the Marines charms to put into a necklace as a gift to my mom.

  10. I'd pick the large silver with crystals and in the end the overall necklace would probably look a lot like yours. I would give it to my sister in law who lost her little angel Emery at 38 weeks on March 18th of this year. I love how perfect this is. Your friend who gave it to you was obviously lead to the perfect gift. *hugs*

  58. Natalie, I love when you post about your sweet angel baby. I also get sad when people ask me if we have any children and I tell them no. My heart feels like it is a mom's heart but explaining about losing my little boy to people I don't know very well is too difficult so I just stick with telling them we have no children for now. I feel so privileged to be the mother of a child with such a special spirit, but it is hard that he only exists for me and few others in my family. It's hard for me to know that I will never have a family photo with my whole family in it, and I worry about what I will say to future children about the big brother they will never know because he is so important to me and I need him to always be part of my family. Your locket is such a sweet reminder of Eliza and an amazing way to keep her with you and also with your other children. I really love that idea. Beautiful.

  63. this is perfect...my sisters and i are planning on getting my mom a necklace like this for Christmas. We are doing the silver locket and each of us are choosing our own charm to put in her locket along with a back plate just to let her know how much we love her. I have been trying to decide between 3 charms the march birthstone (it's both of ours), and I love you hand sign or a blingy heart, but there are so much to choose from it might change. I have liked Hiedi's FB page too.

  64. I love the large silver locket with crystals, but not for myself... my mom is going through some hard times herself... My grandma, her mom, is in hospice and doesn't have much time left. During this time she is also struggling with the separation of my dad and her after 26 years and the falling apart of our family. I wanted to make her one with all of her kids and grandkids birthstones inside along with the back plate that says mom and a little charm that says grandma on it, to remind her of all the blessings she still has.

    I also am a fan of Heidi's page! :)

  79. Hi Natty! I hope you don't mind because I am going to write quite the novel. To begin with I would get the Large silver locket with the crystals, because whats inside is going to be very special to me and I want to showcase that. Inside, I want the silver plate that says family. I also want the thin silver rolo chain that is 32". Inside I want two charms for my uncle Jimmy. The sparkly J to remember his name and the heart with wings. My uncle Jimmy died of colon cancer 7 years ago. The night of my highschool graduation he called me to say his goodbyes, and I wasn't near ready, but looking back at least I got the chance to say goodbye. The sparkly J will remind me of him every time I look at it and the fact that he is watching over me everyday will remind me of that. Then I would like the heart with the angel wings for all the family I have lost over the years. I have been very fortunate to know all different kinds of love in my short life, however short I had that love. Then I would like the little star for my great grandfather. I was lucky enough to know him and one of my favorite memories was sitting on a rockchair watching the rain with him. The day he passed away I remember going to his funeral listening to the song papa can you hear me? And there is a song lyric in it about whenever you miss me just look up to the stars and know im there watching over you. So I want a star to remind me of him. Then I would like a rose and glasses to remind me of my bubbi and zaddi who gave me so much love until the day they couldnt remember me anymore because they both died of alzheimers. The last thing I would like in the necklace is a lion. I have been reading The Chronicles of Narnia lately, and have felt extremely close to the character of Aslan, and it would remind me that god is everywhere watching over me, protecting me, and loving me.

    2. Oh and by the way, I forgot to check if they actually had a lion charm and they don't :( so instead I would get the I love you sign in sign language because my mom is deaf and that is how we way I love you all the time, and that's how I can show my love for all the angels watching down on me in heaven.

  81. I can't decide between the brushed gold or the large silver with crystals. I would have a plate that said either Family or Blessed. And I would have four stones, one for each of my children. My daughter died in July and I face a similar difficulty when telling someone how many children I have. I currently wear a bracelet that a friend gave me when I was in labor, I haven't taken it off since it was put on my wrist. It reminds me of the precious hours I was able to share with Abigail.
