our halloween recap!

Happy Halloween yesterday!
…and let the Halloween clean up commence!
I don't know about you, but by the time Halloween finally rolled around, it felt like we'd already celebrated it three times over.
Wait…it's Halloween today?  Wasn't it Halloween on Saturday…and Monday?

We got outside fifteen minutes too late for good sun so I dialed up my ISO for the traditional costume photos and I got grainy ones.  So so bummed.
I asked the kids to get together for pictures and this is what they delivered.
Isabelle cracks me up in all these.

Charlotte wanted to wear the pirate costume I made for Colby five years ago.  Hallelujah for hand-me-down costumes!  And the boots - she doesn't leave home without them.

Isabelle wanted to be be a race car driver.  How convenient - we have one of those costumes already too!

For our neighborhood Halloween party she asked if I would grease her hair back.  Gotta love Belle!

Miss Maddie the Cat.  Her costume was easy.  I was able to use one of her existing skirts as a pattern for a new one to jazz her costume up a little bit.  No biggie.

Harry Potter was a different story!  Colby's cape just about killed me.  I've never sewn without a pattern and let me tell you, it was grueling.
I know it's just a cape.  But a cape without a pattern…  At one point I sewed the sleeves on backwards - picked the seams and then sewed them on backwards again!

In then end, it was worth it - he looked awesome.  I made him tell me how wonderful and talented I was over and over and that helped.  :)
We bought the Griffindor patch on ebay along with the glasses.  And made his wand with rolled paper, hot glue and paint.  (Step by step here).

Now that Halloween is done - let the crazy busy holidays begin!

  1. Oh my goodness. What cute kids. I think my favorite is the fake wand hit reenactment. So sweet! And the one where Isabelle and Colby are hugging. I love when siblings love each other. They don't HAVE to be mean, and this is proof!

    1. Oh, wow, four times! You're tough. Fortunately Thanksgiving won't be that way.

    1. It gets worse. Reality was, I only THOUGHT I sewed them on backwards. I actually sewed them on CORRECTLY, picked the stitches, then sewed them on backward...and they're still backward. One also has top and bottom seams while the other only has a bottom seam. Ran out of "on the fold".
I've decided sewing is for people with clear minds - mine doesn't qualify.

  7. Harry Potter costume is amazing! Love it and especially the 2nd to last picture. Do you have lightroom? It helps SO much with the grainyness (<making up words here) in pictures! If you do LMK and I'll tell you how to fix it!

    1. It's crazy that you say that because I've just decided this week I need it! I have Photoshop CS5, but I don't know how to correct the graininess. Guess I ought to look it up!
I'm looking at Lightroom as more of a photo managing program, does it work well for that?
