Google Reader no more?!!

I know I said I wouldn't be back until next week, but...
Ahhh!  Did you hear Google Reader is shutting down?!  Terrible news right?
I did a little research on a good replacement reader and kept coming up with Feedly as a good alternative.
For anyone else panicking, it was an easy transition and they'll directly import all your blogs from Google Reader.  (You just have have to transition before July 1st).  It only took five minutes for the entire process.  They also have an app for mobile reading.
Phew.

The set up is definitely different and going to take some getting used to, but I guess it will do.
Grrr, google.  Don't you know we don't like change?

I'm super curious - do any of you have a different reader that you use and love???
Please, please share!

  1. Thanks for sharing this, I saw that on my reader today and was so sad! I will definitely look into Freedly

  2. I saw this when I signed on this morning, SOOO annoying to say the least! I'm finding more and more that Google pretends to make things easier, but then it always ends up being a bigger pain in the butt. This is just the latest issue with them, ugg!

  3. That freedly link doesn't work.

I wonder if any site will let us transfer AND keep our tagged articles? Anyone know?

  8. One good thing about google reader going (although I was shocked at first to hear it!) is that I can finally get rid of all the blogs I no longer read...I kept deleting them from reader and it would last a few days then they'd all come back again...so annoying! So I am over the shock and calling this a good thing :)

  10. i also checked out a few different websites and decided i like feedly best. i have been playing around with the settings and i think i got mine pretty close to google reader, or at least close enough that its not such a difficult transition. now i need to see how it will work on my phone and tablet!

    1. I need to take some time to do the same because I don't care for the default layout.

  11. I used Bloglines for years and then they said the same thing: they were folding in a few months. After I moved all of my stuff over to Google, they were bought by another company and stayed active. I ended up staying with Google but it may be worth checking out. I really liked Bloglines and had no problems while I was with them.

  14. I just signed up for Flipbook because I like how I can swipe to flip the pages over on my tablet. I haven't imported anything yet, I've just been poking around on the app, but it looks good so far. I have heard a lot about Feedly as well and was thinking of downloading them both and seeing which I like better.

  15. This stinks. I love change but only when it comes to design. Change on anything that has to do with computers is NOT good.

  16. I was shocked when I heard about Google Reader leaving. I have switched over to Bloglovin' at the recommendation of a friend. I've heard great things about Feedly too.

  17. I have used Google Reader as I enjoy reading quite a few blogs. So I am sad to see this feature go away. Thanks for posting about which reader to use. I just can't spend the time flipping through all the web pages and the blogs. This was a great resource for me. If I felt that something really caught my eye, as your blog has, I would switch over and read the actual website. I have been really disappointed when a blogger just put a little bit on the RSS feed and then you had to switch over to the website. I understand that its to generate traffic but I really would rather read all of them in one spot as I want to read a bunch of the wonderful blogs and bloggers!
