A few weeks ago, I started Saturday sewing lessons with my older girls (ages 8 & 5). Sewing on paper is the perfect place for beginners to start, so this garland turned out to be the great project for them. Madeline made this one all on her own!
She and Isabelle got busy cutting circles with a 2" punch, then took them over to the sewing machine and strung them together.

They ended up making several - we even have one for our Christmas tree waiting and ready to go.
I was amazed how well Isabelle did. I thought I'd have to sit down with her to help feed them through and push the pedal, but she was a sewing champ and did it all on her own! I actually came downstairs one day to her sitting at the sewing machine stringing together a bunch of freshly cut circles. Then we had to have a little "my sewing machine is not a toy" talk.
The garland she made has been strung across our slider ever since!

These garlands are such an easy, inexpensive project - I'm thinking we'll be making them for every holiday. Especially since I don't have to make them. :)
