Antique Buffet

The buffet is finished!  My client chose a great color, Nantucket Fog by Benjamin Moore.  The hardware is sprayed with Rustoleum's oil rubbed bronze.  I love that it's reads neutral without being overly so.  This was a particularly gratifying project because of the condition it was in when it was dropped it off.  I've never glued, clamped and filled so much!

The buffet before:

Side note: I took my two olders to pick up school supplies yesterday - school starts in three days.  I'm torn.  I love having all my kiddos home…err most of time.  But having them home makes motivation quite difficult to come by.  I'm excited for them to go back so I'm not drudging it up from my tippy-toes on a daily basis, but I'm also really going to miss hanging out at the pool and going to the movies…and screaming, "Be QUIET!  Charlotte is sleeping!"

I think I just don't like change because as I think back to when they started school last year, I bawled my eyes out - I was devastated.  Then the first week of summer break this year…I bawled my eyes out - I was devastated.  I guess I can't be pleased.  I'm prepared to miss them terribly next week and then freak out again next summer when they're home 24/7.

How does one who hates change learn to embrace it?  Are there self-help books written on such things?

  1. Looks fabulous! I love that color... As for embracing change, my daughter just turned one so I can't speak to the school starting / stopping drama, but I have had such a hard time with her growing up so fast. I'm sure she'll be in school before I know it! :) Have a great weekend!

  2. It looks beautiful, I love that color! ...and the contrast of the hardware. Love. It's amazing the range of emotions we gather from our children, they are a blessing and dose of insanity all in one.

  9. The color is so pretty! I have mixed feelings about my kiddos going back to school too. I love having us all home together, but it sure makes it hard to get anything done!

  10. It is stunning, Natty! Just gorgeous. You've staged it beautifully, too. I dislike change so much so I'm the wrong person to give any tips. I really struggle with change. I am a creature of habit and routine.

  13. Love this one!!!! The color is way more my style. I love when school starts. The kids are so excited to come home and tell me all about their day. Besides by the time school starts the kids are ready for a mommy break and I'm ready for one too.

  19. Beautiful buffet. You do gorgeous work. I know what you mean. My daughter didn't bat an eye when I put her on the bus for her first day of kindergarten yesterday. I am not a helicopter parent but her independence almost made me tear up cause my baby is a big girl now. Sniff! But I can't lie - I am going to enjoy this week without her so I can get some stuff done, go to lunch with friends and such before I go back to my middle school classroom next week. I will definitely miss her.. but I will be ok!!

  29. Hi Natalie!

Hey, so I got a sample of this Nantucket Grey today at Home Depot for my daughter's dresser and it's brown, brown, brown. So I Googled the color and the website also shows a brown color. Any chance it's a different name?

    Thanks!

  30. This buffet is really lovely. I was wondering if you could share what paint finish you used? It looks like a semi gloss perhaps? Also, did you spray it or paint it by hand and how many coats did you have to put on. Thanks so much. I have a side table I would like to experiment painting this colour. Thanks!
