frizz, frizz and more frizz

Have you ever heard of curling your hair with a sock?  You roll your hair up in a sock bun before bed and the result is supposed to be beautiful curls by morning.  My sister does it regularly and with great success, so I thought I'd try it out.

Well friends, this is what you get when you have thick, dry, frizzy hair…  An excessive amount of frizz.  Not a perfectly coiffed curl in sight.

Beware:  if your older brothers called you FRO HEAD as a kid, this time saving method might not do wonders for your hair.

I know I've mentioned this before, but my facial wrinkles are so unnerving.  A google search of "how many wrinkles should a 28 year old have?" only helped me to realize I have an excessive amount for my age.  I'm kicking myself for skipping the moisturizer!  I'm wondering what you ladies do to keep the wrinkles at bay?

  1. This is a funny post that I can totally understand. I used to have beautiful curls in high school, and now I just have frizz. My hair is permanently in an up do!

And I don't see a wrinkle on you--you are beautiful! In 20 years, you'll look back on these images and realize how youthful your skin really looks! Don't spend another minute worrying...just use sunscreen and moisturizer. Or better yet...a daily moisturizer with sunscreen in it!

Your work is inspiring! Thanks for all you do:).

  2. I had the EXACT same 'fro head' growing up but now there are SO many products for fixing hair! My latest attempt (on daughter) was this: http://serundipitee.blogspot.com/2011/09/some-pressing-matters.html
Who would figure?! And it lasts for 3 whole days! And THE very best thing for skin is organic coconut oil every night before bed..it is nothing short of amazing and has natural sunscreen so skip that poison stuff! You look lovely, truly, and those aren't old age wrinkles but just character lines that give us personality! It is always the lovely thin folks who give us rounder, plain people a hard time, lol! HUGS!

  5. Um, I don't see wrinkles, girl! You are too hard on yourself! I have the same hair as you and I have always hated it. My sister recently let me try this product and it has been a game changer!!

The attachment that does beachy waves is amazing. For only $25, it's worth a shot!!

  6. facials, facials, facials! i am a {young} believer in facials, great skin products, and staying out of the sun without protection {and going in it for a healthy amount of time WITH protections}. A good peel 1x/mo. can help keep the wrinkles at bay and give you back some glow :) oh happy day!

  8. You don't have wrinkles, you have an expressive face! Anyone who doesn't have wrinkles when they raise their eyebrows up like that, or scrunch up their nose, is cheating.

I've got one daughter with natural spiral curls, and one daughter with a dry, frizzy, tangly mess. I get great results from washing their hair with *only* conditioner. No shampoo! I use Suave Naturals conditioner, which is really cheap and the coconut smells awesome.

  9. "Fro head" honey that is my head everyday since I can remember! LOL -- as for the facial stuff use sunscreen and moisturizer everyday even if you are staying indoors-- establish a facial routine and keep up with it as much as possible. There are expensive brands such as H20 (which I have and love) that are great but there are also over the counter products that are amazing such as Garnier and Olay which rock. And from this 33 yr old to you a young 28 (teehee) use eye cream sister --use it now! LOL

  10. my sister called me albert einstein when I was little because of my hair! haha.

I love all got2be products that you can get from walmart. I have always used salon products like biosilk but then I saw got2be made some similar things I decided to try and they work just as well for me!

  11. I'm the opposite- I have super straight fine hair. I'm always trying different methods to get some body/curl... I like the idea of this sock thing...
For wrinkles, I'm 28 too and I swear by Olay regenerist. I've used $250 creams also, but Olay works best for me. I agree with the others, however - I see expressions, Not wrinkles!

  12. We may have the same type of hair. I did have frizz but I also had ridiculous Shirley Temple curls. They were SO bad LOL!

  13. Hahaha...my hair would look JUST like that! And the wrinkles at 28...ya...I am in the same boat. I am pretty sure it has something to do with kids. I love them, but they age me...

  14. i just tried the sock bun too and ended up with shirly temple curls...being a hairdresser for 16 years...i say try it for second day hair. since ur hair is short put the bun lower like at the nape, so the curls are on the bottom. the sock bun method works great on long, thick , with a medium amount of natural wave.

    good luck!!!

  15. Haha, this was pretty funny. No, they're not wrinkles. My husband for instance is a thin guy, but can make a triple or quadruple chin if he turns his head just so. ;)

  16. haha this post is awesome! At age 27 I think my facial wrinkles are the most annoying realization that I am aging!!! I use FRESH products from Sephora containing soy to help and I heard La Mer is awesome as well!

Hope you are having a good week. Enjoyed reading your blog.

  17. Oh, goodness! Maybe next time you should stick a dryer sheet in with the sock--no frizz. lol. You are gorgeous, and if you really had wrinkles, they would just add character. Keep up all the great work!!! Love to see it.

  18. If you don't want wrinkles then stay out of the sun. My grandmother taught me that. When she died in her 80's she was just starting to get a few wrinkles. I have taken her advice my whole life, and I am in my 50's and have no wrinkles yet. (and I have never done facials, botox, or anything other than soap and water and a light lotion)

  19. stay out of the sun - get a light chemical peel at the spa/doctor's office a few times a year if possible - and get a good moisturizer and toner! I am 29, and have small wrinkles that seem to disappear when my skin is well moisturized versus dry.

  20. Just to humor myself, I'm going to try the sock bun thing tonight.

  21. I have the opposite problem--oily, limp hair that clings to my head like it's frightened. BUT!!! I saw this video online and tried it out, and it works like MAGIC! My only tip is to do each section more loosely than the girl in the video because her curls come out pretty tight. If you loop them through the hairband more loosely, they'll come out looking like you spent hours with a curling iron! I've only had to do a few touch-ups with a curling iron the next day, and this way is really comfortable to sleep in and takes 5-10 minutes max. Try it out!!!

  22. Plus, I'm 29 and I've spent HOURS this past year staring at my laugh lines and sleep lines with my face inches from the mirror. Oh, and I found a gray hair last winter. NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS!!! I say load up on SPF moisturizers and know you have my understanding and sympathy!

  23. I tried the sock bun method and my hair came out the same as you! I used an old sock of my boyfriends and I'm thinking it might have been too big even though I have longer hair...I also do not have layers so that might be why it doesn't look like beautiful curls all over...I got 1 good curl in the front and that was all! I'm so mad! I even put hairspray in to try and make it hold better too! I'm going to try a childs sock...if that doesn't work, i'm going to try an old stocking, I heard that works too.
