Isabelle’s Room

One of the hardest parts of decorating and furnishing our first home, is that there never seems to be enough disposable income that we can complete a space, start to finish, at one time.  Instead, we slowly purchase things here and there as we find them or as they’re needed.  Take Isabelle’s room {soon to be Charlotte’s as well}, for example.  It’s partially finished and I’m slowly working on it.  I just refinished a pair of vintage, twin beds to replace her trundle.   She still needs bolsters, bed skirts and a new lamp.  I also thought I’d DIY a pair of sunburst mirrors for over the beds.  The room seems a little lifeless in the color department, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out how to add more color!  I’m thinking of adding more of the green from her roman shade and introducing yellow.

For now, here is Isabelle’s partially finished room.

  3. The beds are nice! I saw a headboard like those for $5 and I wish I would have gotten it... Well, its still there, I'm just playing around unitl I can get it for 25% for independence day! That and a few other pieces;)

I think once you bring in more green and mayby another shade of the pink, it would be perfect (as far as color goes)... I'm already loving it!

  4. So, so cute so far. I will look for some fun fabric that could be cute pillows on the bed. You sound just like me...all of my rooms are half finished because of the whole "extra money" thing and then by the time I get close to finishing one I don't like what I did first and start over again. Drives my husband crazy, but he's good to support me. My business is doing well enough that I have finally been able to do some things to get "whole" rooms finished all at once. My house is in shambles right now trying to finish things.

  5. I think everything looks beautiful so far. The bolsters, bedskirt and lamp you mentioned could provide the pop of color you need. For now, even a bold accessory on the dresser could do it.

The room looks lovely...I know what you mean about the slow renovating process, we are doing the same thing with our first home...I feel your pain, but it's worth it to see the beautiful results in the end :)

  15. Oh! I'm swooning over the beds and that bedding! I can't wait to see the bolesters and bed skirts. I love how simple and clean it is. I just re-did my 8 year old's room but it seems so cluttered. You've inspired me to simplify. :) I did a super easy and cheap sunburst mirror in my kitchen that is made from silverware but if you were going for a modern-ish take on a "Tea Party" style then it just might work. :)Lemme know if you are interested and I'll send you the link. :)

  23. The room looks so girly, love it! I was wondering if you have any pointers for refinishing the beds. I recently snagged a similar bed for my son with the intentions of painting it. I have been able to sand down the flat parts but when it comes to the posts (very similar to yours) I'm clueless on how to sand around all the turns. Do I just give them a little ruffing up and prime? Thanks in advance!
