My Camera

Let me start by saying that before I started this blog six months ago, I had NEVER used my camera in manual mode.  If I can learn how to take better photos - you can learn how as well!  I'm not going to share a bunch of technical knowledge because there are many photography blogs dedicated to just that.  Plus, that's not how I learned.  I learned by switching my dial to manual mode and working through trial and error.  My suggestion would be to learn the basic functions of aperture, ISO and shutter speed, then practice, practice, practice.

My camera is a Nikon D60.  It's a great camera for a reasonable price, but if I have the option, I use my dad's.

My dad's camera is a Canon EOS 30D.  It's bit faster than mine, but it's also twice the price.

The lens that I primarily use with it is his fixed 50mm.  It creates great background blur!

Here are a few of my favorite recent Isabelle photos - all taken with the Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens.

And a few photos I took while on a hike with the same lens.

  1. Wow, great photos! Thanks for sharing the tip. I may just get brave enough to try manual mode now. Also, I wanted to say how cool it was to see your pink end tables and your painting tutorial in the Bedrooms and Baths magazine! Congrats!

  4. After owning my camera for two years, I have finally turned the dial to manual! It is taking me a lot of trial and error to get the hang of it, but all the aperture/ISO mumbo jumbo is finally starting to click!! I love your photo of the trunk here. And thanks for your sweet comments on my blog :)
