be inspired :: color

While scrolling through images, I'm always on the lookout for great colors and textures that inspire me. Often, the first thing I do when I get a new piece of furniture is run through my colors board on pinterest to get the creative juices flowing.

 Wouldn't this be navy and white combo be great on a dresser for a boys room?

Louis XV Armchairs

Many, many months ago, I purchased a pair of Louis XV armchairs.  I was really excited about the project initially, then I started removing staples and realized I wasn't so excited anymore.

They've been sitting dormant in my living room far too long so I've started collecting photos to inspire me to get excited about them again!

Do you have a favorite???

spool beds - masculine or feminine?

Remember when I asked your color advice a few weeks ago - lilac, magenta or violet for the Jenny Lind bed I'm refinishing? You were all so great to give me your opinions there and now I have another question.   I have always seen spool style frames as feminine, but then the other day, I was perusing the internet for addition inspiration and I came across many in boys' rooms .   It's neither here nor there at this point, I sold it to a woman for her son's room.  But just out of curiosity, what's your opinion - masculine, feminine, or a draw?

A little tid-bit: Jenny Lind is actually a style of furniture, not a particular maker.  This type of furniture is considered anything with a repeating ball pattern.  It can be referred to by many names - spool furniture, spindle style furniture or turned wood. 

While Jenny Lind furniture has gained popularity recently, it's a very traditional style that dates back to the late 18th century.

herringbone floors!

I was really surprised how many of you emailed about spray gun problems after the last post!  I wish it was easier to give more specific suggestions! ________________ I've been wanting to replace my tile for quite some time now - okay, maybe since the minute it was installed.  I waited a good six months to start dropping hints to Zac (I didn't want to seem completely ungrateful), and after a year he was a go.  The dirty grout drives me batty and the tile is a little more yellow than I'd anticipated it when ordering it.  (Everything looks different in the design center!)

source I don't have one friend with dark wood flooring that doesn't wish they would've picked something lighter because of how easily it shows dust.  Dark floors are amazing, but I'm a little over the top in the cleaning department already, so we're going to stick with wood the color of dirt.

Now that we know we're looking for wood the color of dirt, we've started the scouring the local flooring showrooms.
Herringbone floors are to die for, but since Zac will be installing them I have to defer to him and he's not loving all the extra labor attached.  That didn't stop me from showing him these photos to let the thought marinade for a bit….

Any thoughts or experience with wood you've loved?  I'm completely open to suggestions at this point!

Furniture inspiration

Any exciting plans for the weekend?  I loved hearing your thoughts on hunting and I'm sure many of you will be out on the prowl tomorrow!

I don't usually work on the weekends - it's an opportune time with Zac home to help with the kids, but I'm so darn lazy on Saturday.  I sort of putter around dabbling in things here and there, never really getting anything done.  The weekdays are so busy and then Sunday always feels hectic as well with church and meetings and such that Saturday feels like my only guilt-free lounge day.  Tomorrow is going to be a different story.  I have a garage full of client projects to turn out over the next couple weeks so the plan is to put in some good time on those.

Because of the burst of client projects, I've been seeking more color inspiration.  Here are some favorites.
