Death by Disposal

I had so much fun meeting many of you on Saturday for I Heart Thrifting!  It’s amazing how so many women from different backgrounds and interests can come together and instantly become friends all because we love thrifting!  Thanks for coming up with such a great idea, MGH!

Before heading out to meet many of you, I had woken up early to get a few things primed.  I was in quite the hurry and in an even bigger hurry when trying to clean my spray gun in the kitchen sink before running for the shower.  As usual, several of the gun parts fell down the disposal as I was trying to take it apart to remove any leftover primer.  I reached down into the disposal, grabbing anything metal and double checking that I’d gotten the spring (because it’s usually the spring that get’s eaten).  I put all the parts on a paper towel to dry, then turned the disposal on in an effort to clear out any leftover primer.  That’s when it happened.  That nasty, shrill of a sound the disposal makes when a stray fork is left unnoticed.  It wasn’t a fork, however.  It was my needle.  Completely munched and unusable.  It cost me $48 to replace and it won’t be here until Friday.

This is not the first time I’ve been out-of-commission due to a disposal mishap.  It’s happened twice before.  And recently too.

My munched gun parts.  May they rest in peace.

I guess I’m taking the week off from painting.

  1. So sorry! At least it wasn't your hand in the disposal...I have a phobia that the disposal will somehow turn on when my hand is down there fishing stuff out!

  5. Yikes! I hate that sound the disposal makes...no matter how many times I destroy something in there I still always forget to check before turning it on. At least you're forced to relax for a few days!

  7. Hi Natty.

We've been there. We bought a cheap wire strainer to catch little pieces when needing to clean them over the sink. It might work for you!

I love your blog and appreciate you sharing your talents! :)

  8. Enjoy your forced vacation from painting :0 I second the Hatch Family idea, maybe if you just use the strainer for cleaning your spray gun, all the stray paint that gets on it won't matter.

  9. Urrrggghhh!!! I hate that sound. The worst time I ever heard it was when my roommate and I crunched a silver teaspoon from her aunt's collection while we were doing the dishes after Thanksgiving dinner. THAT was fun to explain (thank goodness her aunt was a kind and understanding soul!).

  10. Oh no! So frustrating. But perhaps a nice little forced vacation is not a bad thing?

Sorry I missed the gathering on Saturday. I'm sure it was fabulous!
