First Day Back

Today was my first day back in the "workshop" for almost two weeks.  Do you ever feel like you just need a break from the same old same old to recharge your batteries?  Well, I did.  It's mid-September here in Arizona and the forecast for the week is still hovering around 105 degrees.  That's an improvement over August, but it's still hot.  When I went to kiss Isabelle today as I put her down for a nap, she wrinkled up her cutie nose and said, "You stink!"  I did.  I'd been out working on this buffet for a client.

And prepping this piece for primer...

I haven't yet decided on a color for this chest of drawers, so I thought I'd throw it out there to see if any locals were interested in purchasing it before it's painted and put up for sale in the shop.  You pick the color and help me decide on new hardware or a finish for the existing hardware.  If you're interested, send me an email at nattycox@gmail.com.

Something exciting happened over the weekend.  As Zac was pulling out a big pot to whip up some spaghetti for dinner (I wasn't kidding when I said that's all he makes), he found my missing hardware piece sitting in the bottom of the pot.  Hooray!  And why was there a piece of hardware in my pot?  That's kids for you.

When I posted about the missing hardware a few weeks ago, an amazing reader and furniture refinisher came to the rescue and mailed me a set of hardware that was quite similar to the missing one.  Jessica, from Paint in My Hair, owns a boutique in Spokane, Washington where she sells her refinished pieces and, get this, she also holds monthly painting classes where she teaches locals the ins and outs of refinishing.  Thank you, Jessica!

  1. Hi! I looked for that dresser in your shop and didn't see it? How much are you charging for it? I might be interested for my daughters room or family room? You can email me at chelseahorsley@yahoo.com

  4. Those are really pretty pieces of furniture. I can't wait to see how they turn out and I'm so glad the weather is now getting cooler so I can get back to the garage and paint!

  5. I can't wait to see what you do with that buffet. I have a similar piece that I need to paint, but I just can't decide what I want to do with it!

  6. Ha! I almost put a note in with the pulls saying something along the lines "Sending these so that you can find the original as soon as it ships!" That's murphy's law for you. As for kids--I've got a post coming soon about what my kids did to my store today while my hubby watched all 4 for 3 hours. It's too cute--they "redecorated" for me. ;) take care.

  8. I really like your web page. Is this something that you knew how to do on your own, or, did you have a professional do it? Very interested to know as I am not very "tech savy" when it comes to websites.

  9. Weird!! I was looking at your furniture pictures on the side, and stumbled on the buffet - I bought practically the same one (http://pinterest.com/pin/40039884157247303/) on kijiji. I'm actually planning on painting it a nice red like your bamboo dresser!

Also for another dresser - love the idea of painting the handles, I have these very similar ones and thought about stripping them but would rather just paint them this brass colour, which I already have a can of this at home!

    Beautiful furniture pieces too! Thanks!!
